Scientists find ‘dark oxygen’ being produced from metals on the seafloor
Organisms normally need light to produce oxygen through a process known as photosynthesis.
Scientists have found evidence that metals naturally occurring on the ocean floor may be able to produce oxygen — a potential “game changer” they say could change our understanding of the origins of life on Earth. The researchers, whose study was published Monday in the journal Nature Geoscience, found that through a newly discovered process, masses made of…
Scientists find ‘dark oxygen’ produced without light in deep ocean – The Washington Post
Soooooo…..this is an odd finding and again highlights how little we know about the planet we live on and are supposedly custodians of (not doing a great job are we?).
Perhaps findings like this should be prioritised against investigating other planets that may be fit for habitation. Maybe invest the coin in sorting out the home out first? Just a thought…
