Houston Bar Association (HBA), announcing the winners of its 2022 Diversity Awards, called out Greenberg Traurig twice. The Houston office won first in the Organization Category. Roland Garcia, Litigation Shareholder and winner in the Individual Category. HBA presented the awards at the HBA Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DE&I) Summer Associate luncheon July 21.

“Since our founding, Greenberg Traurig has actively worked towards meaningful change in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Shari L. Heyen (managing shareholder), said that it was an enormous honor to have Houston’s office recognized by Houston Bar Association. “We are also thrilled to have Roland recognized for his dedication to diversity. Roland is a trusted advisor and continues to advocate for underrepresented people.

According to HBA the Diversity Awards recognize individuals and organizations who have shown extraordinary commitment and made significant progress on diversity and equity in the legal sector.

“Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of innovation and advancement in society. We must be dedicated to the cause and intentional with our actions in order to make true impact,” Garcia said. “HBA is a dear organization to me, and I am humbled to accept its 2022 Diversity award.”

Garcia’s dedication to DE&I can be seen in the amount of time and attention he devotes to various organizations. Garcia was the first representative of a minority to be elected president at the HBA. This voluntary bar association is the fifth largest in the country and has more than 11,000 members.

He was also president and member of Texas Supreme Court’s Gender Fairness Task Force.
